Liberals, Blogs, and Orwell’s “Animal Farm” By Barbara J. Stock

The mid-term elections are about a week away and liberals in the “blogosphere” are puffing up like toads and are on the verge of exploding with excitement. The power will soon be theirs! Let the endless investigations begin! Jerry is one such liberal blogger. It must be horrible for him to live in a “red state.” As Jerry posted in a long epistle explaining the supremacy of liberals over conservatives, the true nature and feelings of many liberals became horribly apparent. Pay attention, America. These are the people who want to dictate to you how you will live your lives. While many liberals love to quote George Orwell’s great novel “1984,” when asked about “Animal Farm,” another novel written by Orwell, they fall silent, unable to see the parallels between themselves and rebellious farm animals that evict the farmer and take over the farm for themselves. Many liberals declare that the only enemy America has today is Bush. In “Animal Farm” the old boar tells the other animals that "Man is the only real enemy we have.” If the animals could rid themselves of man, their lives would be perfect. Sadly, Jerry-the-liberal-blogger is typical of the arrogance projected by the leftists in America today. Here is a sample of Jerry’s thoughts: “Is it because the intelligent understand the world better and become liberal? Or is it because liberals are smarter to begin with? And as would be assumed, the better educated are wealthier and less religious.” It is Jerry’s opinion that however it occurs, liberals are “smarter” than conservatives. Liberals are better educated, wealthier, and, of course, have abandoned the foolish notion of God and religion. In the novel “Animal Farm,” after the animals have secured the farm for themselves, it quickly becomes apparent that the pigs on the farm have decided that they and they alone are “smart enough” to make the farm successful. All of the planning that would be required would be hard work so they could not be expected to join in the back-breaking physical work of the common “less intelligent” animals. In the pig’s opinion, because of their superior intelligence, they should be the leaders. Of course, the superior pigs must have more comfort than the barn allows so they can do all of their serious “thinking.” They will need the best food as well since all that thinking is such hard work. So the pigs, with their new allies the dogs, move into the human house and begin sleeping on the human’s beds. The commandment stating no animal should sleep on a human bed is altered, just a little, to read: “on a bed with sheets.” While it sounds distasteful, using the plot of “Animal Farm” as a template for Jerry’s posting about how liberals are “smarter” than conservatives, it demonstrates the similarities between the pigs in "Animal Farm" and the thought patterns of some liberals. “In either case; as was painted from the last election; the Blue States occupy the higher educational centers of the country. …the upper east coast and the west coast contain the majority of “blue,” and hold the majority of higher education centers and the wealthy. The term, “Liberal professor;” “Liberal bastions of education;” the (Hollywood) “elite” and the “intelligentsia,” are used more frequently. This also includes the “Liberal Press” and “liberal college students.” Apparently, there are no good colleges or universities in “red zones.” This would leave out such famed schools as Notre Dame, Purdue, and the University of Arizona, just to name a few. Interestingly, President Bush went to Harvard and Yale which are both found in Jerry’s vaulted bastions of liberal supremacy, the “blue zones.”

What does liberal blogger Jerry think of his fellow Americans who do not recognize the superiority of liberals? Any punctuation, grammatical, or spelling errors are compliments of the “superior intelligence” of Jerry-the-liberal-blogger. “The country by religion, shows the center-south more the home of the Christian Coalition; Religious Right; Ku Klux Klan and other ‘Halleluiah’ groups. As the color gets brighter red, we also find ourselves in the poorer states. “Redneck Country.” This, trailer-trash, bible belt area contains the followers of Pat Robertson, Oral Roberts, Jim Bakker, Jim Jones, George Bush, Jimmy Swaggart, and the likes. Witness the pickup trucks with Stars and Bars stickers right next to their “Jesus Saves,” and “Bush Cheney” stickers.” Religious ”red-necked trailer trash” is how this “man,” now sleeping in a human bed—without sheets—sees vast parts of America. If you are not a liberal, you are hopelessly worthless. His disdain continues: “And it’s no accident, in this election, that as the voters become ‘better educated,’ the states more likely to show increases in Democrat voters, and elected official, are on the fringes of the center-south. Generally leaving the hard-core 30%ers sitting in their overalls, picking their nose and petting their Coon dogs.” In the book, “Animal Farm,” the pig, named Napoleon, kills off his “equal” pig partner and tells his “equal animal friends” that the responsibility of leadership is not a pleasure for him. He reassures them that ALL animals are equal but…important decisions must be made with great care and thought and what if THEY made the wrong decision? What would become of them all if equal—but inferior and less intelligent—animals made bad decisions that would affect them all? No, it was best to leave those decisions to HIM, because, after all, he was more intelligent than they. In the end, all of the commandments the animals had agreed on in the beginning were removed save one—with a slight alteration: “All animals are created equal” had become: “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.” In Jerry-the-liberal-blogger’s world of liberal superiority, all Americans are equal but some are more equal than others. Liberals are most certainly more intelligent, wealthier, better educated, and well, just better people all around than the coon-dog loving, nose-picking, God-fearing, red-necked trailer trash who are conservative. America should be run by the liberals who hail from the cities of Los Angeles, Hollywood, New York, and Boston. We conservatives should be content to stay in the barn while the liberals take over the house and sleep on the beds and make deals with neighboring farmers. We should just be still in our stupidity and do the hard labor of making the country function while they, the liberals, make all the decisions for us. Is there any difference between liberal Jerry and Napoleon the pig? Not much. Both are content to believe they are superior in every way to anyone who does not agree with them. The question is this: Do Americans want to live in the barn, subservient to those who have declared themselves superior or enforce the commandment that all Americans are created equal? Do we want liberals looking down their snouts at us? Perhaps we should just sick our coon-dogs on them and run them all up a tree in that redneck trailer park we all live in.
